Comparative Analysis of Active and Passive Solar Heating Systems with Transparent Insulation

چکیده
The objective of this research is to achieve a high solar fraction in social housing, for which investment costs are strictly limited. Six houses have been built in the east of France: two with active (solar collectors) and four with passive (Trombe walls) solar heating systems. Two types of transparent covers are compared: a capillary structure and a simpler polycarbonate plate. The project was monitored during 1 year. Experimental measurements as well as simulation results are presented in this article. The use of simulation allowed a comparison of the various systems on a common basis, i.e., minimizing the effect of different occupants behaviour. Compared to the less expensive cover, transparent insulation increased the productivity of the air collectors 2590 and doubled the gain of the Trombe wall. Thanks to passive or active controls, the thermal comfort was not reduced by the solar systems in summer nor in mid-season.

Comparative performance assessment of flat plate and evacuated tube collectors for domestic water heating systems in Kerman, Iran
This study represents a year-round energy performance of two solar water heating (SWH) systems with a 4m2 flat plate collector (FPC) and an evacuated tube collector (ETC) operating under the same weather conditions. The energy performance of the two considered systems was compared on a monthly and yearly basis. The obtained results showed that for an annual total solar insolation of ...
متن کاملImprovement of thermal performance of a solar chimney based on a passive solar heating system with phase-change materials
Passive solar systems such as solar chimneys need solar radiation in order to work. Therefore, they cannot present stable natural ventilation when solar energy vanishes: to have a more robust and stable condition, solar energy should be stored during the day and released back during the night. Phase change materials can save additional thermal energy during the day and release it during the...

In this paper, an economic study of solar heat pumps and an investigation of differences between solar heat pumps and conventional heat pumps—based on their performances and energy consumption—are conducted for a residential apartment located in Austin, Texas, USA. Heating in the apartment is provided via a solar heat pump during the cold months of a year. Solar collectors are used to meet the ...
